Objectives of the Course
In this course, it is aimed to describe the virus, to determine its structural and infectivity characteristics, to explain the developmental patterns of viral infections in the organism and the techniques used in the diagnosis of viral etiology in infections.

Learning Outcomes PO MME
The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 can explain the differences between viruses and other microorganisms. PO-1 As a dentist, she/he has the basic knowledge of clinical and social sciences required by her profession and uses them throughout her/his life.
PO-2 She/he applies the basic medical and science knowledge she has learned in both clinical and laboratory studies and has problem solving skills.
PO-3 She/he can work in interdisciplinary teams in various branches of dentistry and other medical fields and seeks the opinion or treatment of the necessary specialist for medical and dental treatments beyond her ability.
Examination
LO-2 can explain virus replication, virus-host relationship and viral pathogenesis. PO-1 As a dentist, she/he has the basic knowledge of clinical and social sciences required by her profession and uses them throughout her/his life.
PO-2 She/he applies the basic medical and science knowledge she has learned in both clinical and laboratory studies and has problem solving skills.
PO-3 She/he can work in interdisciplinary teams in various branches of dentistry and other medical fields and seeks the opinion or treatment of the necessary specialist for medical and dental treatments beyond her ability.
Examination
LO-3 can explain the viral agents frequently encountered in dentistry. PO-1 As a dentist, she/he has the basic knowledge of clinical and social sciences required by her profession and uses them throughout her/his life.
PO-2 She/he applies the basic medical and science knowledge she has learned in both clinical and laboratory studies and has problem solving skills.
PO-13 It performs preventive dentistry practices in the clinic, as well as participates in community-oriented oral and dental health programs and projects to be planned at local or national level, and when necessary, it acquires adequate equipment and supervises or manages it.
PO-15 It is sufficient to raise the oral health of groups, families and individuals in the society to a high level.

Structure of viruses, general characteristics, host-virus relations, production of viruses, hepatotropic viruses, viruses that cause gastroenteritis, respiratory tract viruses, neurotropic viruses, oncogenic viruses, prions, slow virus infections.
