| Contents of this course Overview of insects: their structure, functions and classification; Insect morphology, anatomy and physiology; reproduction and development; forest environment, effects of non-living factors, role of living factors, sampling, observation, estimation and economic damage levels; population ecology; pest control; forest pest insects; identification, ecology, life cycle, economic importance and control options of key pests in natural forests and afforestation areas; leaf caterpillars, leaf bees and leafhoppers; sap-sucking insects; gall beetles; seed and fruit pests; bark beetles; wood decomposer insects; manas, pest management theory and principles of control; introduction of biological control; biology of bacteria, protozoa and viral pathogens; biology of arthropod predators; biology of insect parasitoids; ecological basis of biological control; biological control in integrated pest management; covers the topics of biotechnology and biological control. |
