Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable students to explain living systems and their functioning, to define the problems of these systems and to present solutions, to have the ability to use modern methods and tools for biological applications. It is to provide a higher level of efficiency with biological control.

Learning Outcomes PO MME
The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 Learns the basic principles of pest control. PO-12 Recognizes and uses the scientific knowledge.

LO-2 Evaluates the negative effects of chemical warfare. PO-14 Contributes to social projects planned with community awareness based on professional skills and responsibilities of authorities (takes place in briefings with farmers, theoretical and practical work etc.)

LO-3 Recognize the living groups used against pests PO-1 Recognize animal species and breeds, structural and functional (anatomical, histological, physiological and biochemical, etc.) basic features.
PO-2 Interprets vital signs of animals and performs basic first aid in appropriate cases.

Course Contents
Contents of this course Overview of insects: their structure, functions and classification; Insect morphology, anatomy and physiology; reproduction and development; forest environment, effects of non-living factors, role of living factors, sampling, observation, estimation and economic damage levels; population ecology; pest control; forest pest insects; identification, ecology, life cycle, economic importance and control options of key pests in natural forests and afforestation areas; leaf caterpillars, leaf bees and leafhoppers; sap-sucking insects; gall beetles; seed and fruit pests; bark beetles; wood decomposer insects; manas, pest management theory and principles of control; introduction of biological control; biology of bacteria, protozoa and viral pathogens; biology of arthropod predators; biology of insect parasitoids; ecological basis of biological control; biological control in integrated pest management; covers the topics of biotechnology and biological control.
