Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge and skills of language teacher candidates about classroom assesment techniques. This course explores the role of formative assessment in the education of culturally and linguistically diverse students in K12 classrooms. The impact of current trends in assessment will be analyzed as well as how assessments are used for the identification and placement of bilingual and ESL students. Students will learn how to administer, score, and evaluate proficiency assessments. Various forms of classroom-based assessments will be examined as to how they inform instruction.

Course Contents
Measurement tools used in education and their properties; tools based on traditional approaches: Written exams, short answer exams, true-false type tests, multiple choice tests, paired tests, oral examinations; tools for multidimensional definition of student: observation, interview, performance evaluation, student product file, research papers, research projects, peer evaluation, self evaluation, attitude scales; considerations in assessing student achievement; evaluation of learning outcomes and grading.
