Objectives of the Course
To provide information about the emergence and development of the Chalcolithic process in the Aegean World and its place and importance in the history of the Near East.

Learning Outcomes PO MME
The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 The course provides the opportunity to recognize, evaluate and discuss the Chalcolithic process in the Aegean World. PO-1 Have the basic and updated knowledge of archaeology with combination of ethical rules.
PO-2 Able to interpret and evaluate of theoretical undergraduate knowledge of archaeology and practice this knowledge in the field. Also able to identify and analyze the problems and bring solutions which are based on research and evidences.
PO-3 Able to record the archaeological data in terms of visual and statement context with technological tools.
PO-4 Able to transfer of the professional knowledge and experience in the archaeology through oral and written communication in the national and international level.
PO-5 Able to professional work and join independently to the archaeological projects in national and international levels.
PO-6 Able to take professional responsibility to solve the problems encountered in archaeological work and projects in national and international levels.
PO-7 Able to plan and manage in archaeological works and projects within the framework of ethical principles in national and international levels.
PO-8 Able to transmit popular topics in archaeology to the community in national and international level with a professional vision.
PO-9 Able to take responsibility in archaeology about data collection, interpretation and publishing and act according to the rules of social, scientific and ethical values.
PO-10 Able to professional legislate in archaeology, to present and protect of the artifacts in museology, and cataloging in the scope of documentation.
PO-11 Able to work not only in the field but also in store and labs which evaluated the archaeological data in written and visual context.
PO-12 Able to identifying learning needs in archaeology and to take responsibility to protect cultural heritage. Also able to raise public awareness of cultural heritage within the context of broad vision and life-long learning system according to the rules of ethics.

Course Contents
The course covers Western Anatolia, the Aegean Islands, Crete, the Greek mainland and the Southern Balkans within the general framework of the Aegean World. The cultural process extending from the mid-6th millennium BC to the beginning of the 3rd millennium BC in this geography constitutes the subject content of the course.

1 Geography of the Aegean World. General view of the Paleolithic-Neolithic process. The transition process from Neolithic to Chalcolithic. Lecture, visual presentation, discussion, homework.
2 The emergence of Early Chalcolithic communities in Western Anatolia and Thrace, their origin and development. The chronological framework of the Early Chalcolithic process. Lecture, visual presentation, discussion, homework.
3 Early Chalcolithic period. Cultural developments in Thrace, Istanbul and Eastern Marmara regions. Analysis of Anatolia-Thrace/Balkans Lecture, visual presentation, discussion, homework.
4 Early Chalcolithic period. Developments in the Northwestern Anatolia region (Kumtepe IA, Beşiktepe etc. Lecture, visual presentation, discussion, homework.
5 Early Chalcolithic period. Central and Southwestern Anatolia regions (Ulucak III, Ege Gübre II etc.) Lecture, visual presentation, discussion, homework.
6 Middle Chalcolithic period in Western Anatolia. (Gülpınar, Yeşilova, Liman Tepe VII etc.) Lecture, visual presentation, discussion, homework.
7 Middle Chalcolithic period in Western Anatolia and nearby islands (Beçin Kalesi, Tavabaşı, Tigani II-III, Emporio X-VIII). Lecture, visual presentation, discussion, homework.
