Objectives of the Course
The goal of this course is to develop reading, understanding, summarizing, text analysis and discussion skills through a reading of literary and non-literary texts. Additionally, this course aims to prepare the students for reading literary texts that they will encounter in the following semesters and enable them to express their opinions in written forms.

The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 can show knowledge about the basics of academic reading and writing. PO-1 They acquire knowledge and skills about English grammar, English culture, English literature, the structure and education of the English language.
PO-2 They gain the ability to write, read and speak in English.
PO-7 They acquire the necessary equipment that will enable them to act as a bridge in intercultural communication and in the perception and interpretation of different cultures.
PO-10 They gain proficiency in reading and interpreting English texts.
PO-11 They gain competence in analyzing grammatical structures specific to English.
Examination
LO-2 can employ fundamental reading and writing strategies in an integrated way. in their comprehension and production of texts. PO-1 They acquire knowledge and skills about English grammar, English culture, English literature, the structure and education of the English language.

Course Contents
In this course, different perspectives will be grasped by using original reading pieces such as newspapers, magazines, reviews and academic articles. The connections between sentences and the main idea of the text will be guessed, and the ability to reach the main idea and use semantic clues between sentences will be gained. In this course, in which high-level reading skills are gained, the focus will be on gaining the habit of reading in and out of class and developing critical thinking skills based on synthesizing, analyzing and evaluating information.
