This course covers the definition of financial crises, their historical development and their effects on the economy. Concepts such as fragility in the financial system, speculative bubbles, liquidity crises and systemic risk are examined theoretically and practically. Various crisis models are evaluated within the framework of classical and modern financial crisis theories. Starting from the Great Depression of 1929, important historical crisis examples such as the Mexican Crisis of 1994, the Asian Crisis of 1997, the Turkish Crisis of 2001 and the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 are analyzed in detail. In addition, the effects of global contagion are discussed through the European Debt Crisis and crises in developing countries. Crisis forecasting methods, early warning systems and monetary and fiscal policies implemented against crises are also covered within the scope of the course. Financial crises experienced in the Turkish economy are specifically evaluated. The aim is to provide students with critical thinking skills about crisis management, regulatory reforms and the future of the financial system. |
