Objectives of the Course | |||||
The aim of this course is to introduce the student to the basic doctrines of traditional Aristotelian logic -- those of terms, propositions and (immediate and mediate) inferences-- and to the basic problems concerning these doctrines. |

An explanation of the general notion of logic, and detection of the various manifestations of this notion in ordinary language and scientific activity; determination of the topics of study of logic as a normative and formal science; an examination of the kinds and principles of reasoning; determination of the general character and structure of the logic of terms based on Aristotle's Organon; an exposition of the elements and methods of validity test, under the titles of the doctrine of terms, the doctrine of propositions and the doctrine of inferences. | ||
