Objectives of the Course
The objective of this course is to improve awareness on the relation between language and culture making use of the related theories and approaches such as Sapir-Whorfian Hypothesis, speech-acts, ethnography of communication; and concepts which demonstrate different characteristics in different languages and cultures such as kinship terms, colour terms, metonomy, metaphor, gender related linguistic features, and discourse patterns.

Course Contents
Language and culture are among the fundamental factors playing an important role in globalization. Accordingly, this course is to inform students about the close relationship between the functionality of intercultural theory and acquisition and use of lingual skills. The course aims to lead students to make original evaluations in the new dimensions of language-culture relationship.
