Objectives of the Course
To introduce linguistics, history of linguistics, branches, applied linguistics studies to comprehend.

Learning Outcomes PO MME
The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 Historical development of linguistics, able to applied linguistics, and how the results of studies clutch. PO-3 Knowing language concept in every aspect, recognizing methods and disciplines (linguistics, grammar, philology) of the language, and can to examine Turkish language by contemporary linguistics data.

Course Contents
Linguistics of the definition, scope, history, branches; semantics, syntax, phonology, phonetics. Outlines (from Aristotle until the 20th century) history of linguistics, Saussure's structuralism in the 20th century, the place of linguistics, Chomsky's concept of generative grammar, linguistics different research areas. Language functioning, language and mind; Kind of language, language of the elements; Language and communicative; The concept of indicators; Contact elements; Linguistics ideas (theories): Comparative (historical) linguistics; Structural linguistics; Generative linguistics; Contextual linguistics will be discussed.
