Objectives of the Course | |||||
Introduction to the Byzantine culture through the works of art in the religious and civil architecture, monumental painting, icon painting, manuscripts and minor arts. To create common awarness and consciousness in Turkey about the cultural heritage of this period. |

The rise of the Byzantine identity in art and architecture. Dark Ages of Byzantium (7th-9th cent.), Iconoclasm, Islamic conquests and raids. Middle Byzantine art and architecture (9th-12th cent.) All the related works of art will be discussed and interpreted within their historic and social context and the ties between art, society and culture will be challenged. | ||
