Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to provide the students with the knowledge necessary to carry out basic and applied researches at advanced level in the field of microbial fermentation and to develop the problem solving and analytical thinking skills of the students.

Examination
LO-2 can explain the definition of fermentation and the basic concepts of microorganisms nutrition, and factors influencing the growth of microorganisms PO-3 Identify structure-function relationships in cells and organisms
PO-9 Find out new methods to improve his/her knowledge
PO-14 Have knowledge about the main research interests of the molecular biology and genetics
PO-16 Explain the scientific findings clearly and efficiently both in written and verbal communications.
Examination
LO-3 can be able to interpret the fermentors, types, characteristics and production of food and pharmaceutical compounds through fermentation technology. PO-4 Define the relationship among life forms and their environments and ecosystems
PO-8 Develop an awareness of continuous learning in relation with modern technology
PO-9 Find out new methods to improve his/her knowledge

Course Contents
The structure of enzymes, kinetics, inhibition, usage as a regulator, microbial nutrition and laboratory culture, oxidation-reduction, an example of fermentation: the mechanism of glycolysis, microbial growth, microbial growth cycle and measurement of microbial growth, factors influencing the growth of microorganisms, industrially important microorganisms, enzyme production by recombinant DNA techniques, fermentors, types and characteristics, production of pharmaceutical compounds and food through fermentation technology is the subject of this course.
