Objectives of the Course | |||||
To be able to understand the Ottoman bureaucratic order and to evaluate the documents in terms of their contexts in this direction, to teach students the types of Ottoman documents in terms of content and form in order to make document criticisms. Thus, to be able to realize the importance of Ottoman document series in terms of being a source in order to reveal a more complete history writing. |

Course Contents | ||
Especially Ottoman handwritten document types used as the main source in historical research will be introduced. The said documents will be analyzed in terms of diplomatic science. Examinations will be made on the census registers produced by the Classical Period Ottoman bureaucracy, jizye and avariz registers, the sher ,iyye registers, ahkam registers, judgment books, the birth registers produced by the modern Ottoman bureaucracy, the temettuat books and the series of documents written in lef style. Information will be given about the State Archives Presidency Ottoman Archive funds that will be used to access documents, and how to benefit from these funds will be explained. | ||
