Objectives of the Course |
The body, which has been neglected for a long time by the social sciences, has turned into an important topic of sociological debate starting from the 1980s. The approach of sociology undoubtedly focuses not only on anatomy and physiology, but on the body's capacity to perform and make sense of social actions. The purpose of the body sociology course is to address the diversity of the body (young, old, healthy, disabled, etc.), belonging (historical, cultural, class, etc.) and convictions (pleasure, pain, death), thus feeding the body from the knowledge of philosophy and various scientific disciplines. is to try to understand its place in society. |

Course Contents |
Self, body and ethics are the basic terms that we will try to place our bodies in a social context. In our lessons, socio-historical filters that we perceive our bodies and bodily reality will also be discussed. The separation of the main social references (from religion to fashion, from sexuality to death) that surround, shape and control our body is another concern of the course, along with the critique of the currently widespread discourse of the “performing self”. The content of the course is in a direction that allows you to see the contemporary ways of existence in Foucauldian sense by dividing them into pieces in the direction of “today's history”. |
