Objectives of the Course
To introduce Language Acquisition field as a sub-field of Applied Linguitics. To teach about stages of child language development in paralel to L1 acquisition. To teach about important theories and hypothesis in this field.

Course Contents
The purpose of this course is to make students familiar with the theories of first and second language development (behaviorism, innateness, information processing, connectionist models, and interactional approach). The focus of this course will be on developmental stages in mother tongue acquisition and in second language learning, learner’s characteristics and individual differences influencing success in second language learning (e.g., influence of personality, language aptitude, intelligence, age of acquisition, motivation, and attitude, learning preferences and beliefs), and contextual differences between first language acquisition and second language acquisition (e.g., natural and formal learning environments).
