The aim of this course is to provide an understanding of the political, cultural, philosophical and other developments in Europe and the Islamic world in the Middle Ages. |

Political structure of Europe in the Middle Ages; Christianity and the religious structure of Europe; religion-state-science relationship (aristocracy-clerical struggle); the socio-economic structure of Europe; Culture and civilization in medieval Europe (the emergence of the scientific mentality in late medieval Europe, the interaction of science and philosophy of the Andalusian Umayyads with central European and English science, Thomas Aquinas, Roger Bacon); Political structure of Asia in the Middle Ages; Islam and the religious structure of Asia; Socio-economic structure of Asia in the Middle Ages; Education, science and culture and civilization in Asia (elements of philosophy, science and material civilization in Asia). | ||
