Objectives of the Course
the aim of this course is to define and recognize the fundamental concepts of literature written in the target language; to evaluate the literary works through literary analysis and synthesis; to contribute to their future teaching career by developing the language knowledge and skills through literary texts.

LO-1 can name and define the terms and fundamental concepts of literature. PO-11 Applies appropriate methods and techniques by collaborating for the development of critical thinking, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
PO-13 Defines the basic literary concepts and principles, applies these concepts and principles in the field of foreign language teaching.

Course Contents
Cultural history of British and American literature and literary works written in English; fundamental terms and techniques; major genres and styles in literature; movements and periods in literature in English; the content and style of various literary texts such as short story, poem, drama and novel representing different periods and genres of English literature; literature’s contribution to our understanding of life; literary tools to analyze and critically evaluate literary works and critical perspectives towards the texts; literary arts used in texts so as to make deductions, inferences and evaluations.
