Objectives of the Course | |||||
The aim of this course is to provide knowledge and skills to analyze the political modernization process in Turkey from a historical perspective within the framework of modernization theories. The course covers topics such as Ottoman modernization, Tanzimat reforms, constitutional movements, the establishment of the Republic, the transition to a multi-party system, democratization efforts, and contemporary political modernization dynamics in Turkey. Through this course, students are expected to develop an analytical perspective in evaluating the political modernization process in Turkey. |

The modernization process in the Ottoman Empire, the Tanzimat and Islahat Edicts, constitutional movements, constitutional developments in the Ottoman Empire, the Young Turks and Westernization efforts, the proclamation of the Republic and political transformation, the single-party period and reforms, the transition to a multi-party system, political modernization dynamics after 1960, 1980, and 2000, democracy and military interventions, the development of civil society, the rule of law in Turkey, human rights, and democratization processes. | ||
