Geological heritage is a rare geosite under the threat of extinction, in which information and geological documents of the region will be lost in case of extinction. Places declared as "protected areas" are closed to public activities. Geosite does not mean a geological site in this sense. Geosite means "place or locality" that represents a geological feature and is used to easily describe the relevant formation that those who want to see and learn about this feature can visit. There is no size limit. It can be very small or it can cover very large areas. The locality, which best represents the geological event, process, product, is "geosite". If there is more than one feature in an area, it is not a feature, but an area, region, region is considered a "geosite". In this course, the awareness of protecting geological sites, their locations and geological heritage will be gained. |
