Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable the student to evaluate the historical and cultural events seen in England in the period starting from the Renaissance period until the end of the 17th century, to observe how poetry and prose developed in this process, and to examine the genres and major literary works that emerged and developed during this period in the light of these developments. To provide students with the knowledge, skills and competencies to interpret.

The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 can explain the basic characteristics of the birth and development of humanism, Petrarchism, Neo-Platonism and the Reformation, and explain their effects on Renaissance thought. PO-1 They acquire knowledge and skills about English grammar, English culture, English literature, the structure and education of the English language.
PO-2 They gain the ability to write, read and speak in English.
Examination
LO-2 can explain Renaissance English literature in cultural, social and historical context. PO-1 They acquire knowledge and skills about English grammar, English culture, English literature, the structure and education of the English language.

Examination
LO-3 can discuss the leading writers of the period and their works in the sonnet, pastoral, epic and prose genres and find the genre characteristics of these texts. PO-1 They acquire knowledge and skills about English grammar, English culture, English literature, the structure and education of the English language.
PO-2 They gain the ability to write, read and speak in English.
PO-3 They use and apply the knowledge they have acquired in their field of education and research.
Examination
LO-4 can recognize and compare the differences between Renaissance and 17th century English literature. PO-1 They acquire knowledge and skills about English grammar, English culture, English literature, the structure and education of the English language.
PO-2 They gain the ability to write, read and speak in English.
PO-3 They use and apply the knowledge they have acquired in their field of education and research.
Examination
LO-5 can discuss the Cavalier and Metaphysical poetry traditions and the authors who worked in this field, and compare the characteristics of the two movements. PO-1 They acquire knowledge and skills about English grammar, English culture, English literature, the structure and education of the English language.

PO-3 They use and apply the knowledge they have acquired in their field of education and research.

Course Contents
This course begins with the introduction of the Renaissance period, its history and literature, and continues by giving information about 17th century English history, culture and literature. Afterwards, examples from the writers and works of Renaissance English literature and 17th century English literature are examined, discussed and interpreted.
