Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to enable the student to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competence to define literary genres, rhetorical devices, figures of speech, and the features of literary movements, to comment on and categorise them, and to analyse these genres and figures of speech in literary works. Within this context, poems dramas, novels and the other prose types are aimed to be analysed with a special interest in the literary concepts.

The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 can identify literary terms in the literary texts. PO-1 They acquire knowledge and skills about English grammar, English culture, English literature, the structure and education of the English language.
PO-10 They gain proficiency in reading and interpreting English texts.
PO-13 In addition to information about the English language, literature, culture, society and history, the student can gain the ability to collect current issues and information about England from English sources and share them with the relevant person, institution and organization.
PO-25 They gain advanced sensitivity and predisposition in the fields of language, culture and literature.
Examination

Course Contents
In this course, the concept of literature with its main features is discussed; literary periods and movements are introduced; literary genres are explained through examples; forms of literature such as poetry, novel, drama and non-fiction are introduced with their kinds and major characteristics; and these literary movements, genres, rhetorical devices, and figures of speech are examined in selected works of literature.
