Objectives of the Course | |||||
The aim of this course is to examine the poetry and prose produced during the Victorian era, a significant period in 19th-century English literature. This course will enable students to understand the cultural, social, and historical context of Victorian literature and analyze the aesthetic and thematic features of literary works from this period. Additionally, it will help students grasp the influence of the Victorian era on the literary field and understand the literary movements and themes of this era. |

Course Contents | ||
In this course, the selected texts of Victorian poetry and prose from the beginning of the Victorian period until the 1920s are analysed and the characteristics and genres of early twentieth century poetry and prose are explained. Works of the Victorian poets (Tennyson, Browning, Arnold, Carlyle, and Ruskin) and the Pre-Raphalelite poets (Rossetti and Swinburne) are thematically studied in relation to the philosophical developments of the period. | ||
