Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competence to examine the historical, cultural, and literary developments of English poetry and prose from the 1920s to the present through selected works of relevant poets and writers.

The students who succeeded in this course:
LO-1 can analyze the relationship between 20th-century and contemporary British history, culture, and literature. PO-7 They acquire the necessary equipment that will enable them to act as a bridge in intercultural communication and in the perception and interpretation of different cultures.
PO-13 In addition to information about the English language, literature, culture, society and history, the student can gain the ability to collect current issues and information about England from English sources and share them with the relevant person, institution and organization.
PO-17 They gain awareness about looking at their own nation objectively by using knowledge in English language, literature and culture.
PO-25 They gain advanced sensitivity and predisposition in the fields of language, culture and literature.
Examination
LO-2 can identify thematic and technical innovations in twentieth-century and contemporary British poetry through selected works. PO-7 They acquire the necessary equipment that will enable them to act as a bridge in intercultural communication and in the perception and interpretation of different cultures.
PO-9 They conduct research and analysis in the field of English language, literature, culture and history.

Examination
LO-3 can compare the political works of the 1930s with the Neo-Romantic movement of the 1940s in terms of style and technique. PO-2 They gain the ability to write, read and speak in English.
PO-5 They evaluate the knowledge and skills they have acquired in the field with a critical approach and use them in solving the problems related to society.
PO-8 They can participate in various social, cultural and artistic activities in the field of English and British culture and add new values to society based on the inferences they obtain as a result of these participations.
PO-9 They conduct research and analysis in the field of English language, literature, culture and history.
PO-24 They gain knowledge about the process and development of English literature from its beginning to the present day.

Examination
LO-4 can evaluate the works of the 1950s Movement poets, such as Philip Larkin, in terms of thematic and technical features. PO-2 They gain the ability to write, read and speak in English.
PO-5 They evaluate the knowledge and skills they have acquired in the field with a critical approach and use them in solving the problems related to society.
PO-7 They acquire the necessary equipment that will enable them to act as a bridge in intercultural communication and in the perception and interpretation of different cultures.
PO-10 They gain proficiency in reading and interpreting English texts.
PO-24 They gain knowledge about the process and development of English literature from its beginning to the present day.

Examination
LO-5 can analyze the poetry of the 1980s and 1990s in terms of historical, social, political, and literary characteristics through the works of poets such as D. Bush, P. Durcan, S. Armitage, and L.K. Johnson. PO-2 They gain the ability to write, read and speak in English.
PO-6 They use the inferences they obtain by learning the language, which was born and developed in a foreign culture and is a living part of that culture, together with cultural elements, in intercultural interaction.
PO-10 They gain proficiency in reading and interpreting English texts.
PO-24 They gain knowledge about the process and development of English literature from its beginning to the present day.
Examination
LO-6 can interpret the works of female poets such as C. A. Duffy, J. Kay, G. Nichols, N. Ni Dhomhnaill, and L. Greenlaw. PO-2 They gain the ability to write, read and speak in English.

Course Contents
In this course, twentieth-century and contemporary English poetry and prose are examined and interpreted within the framework of historical and cultural events, beginning with English Modernist poetry. Twentieth-century and contemporary English poetry are analyzed in their historical, cultural, and literary contexts. The course explores movements, themes, and developments in modern and postmodern English poetry in terms of form, content, and the philosophical ideas of the period.
