Objectives of the Course | |||||
The aim of this course is to examine in depth the historical development and basic concepts of Islamic educational thought. The aim of the course is to investigate the impact of the theological, philosophical and Sufi traditions on education from the time of the Prophet Muhammad to the present day, to analyse the evolution and modernisation processes of the madrasa system and to discuss the possible educational consequences of the Islamisation of knowledge. |

PO-3 Uses the resources in the related field effectively based on undergraduate level qualifications. |

LO-2 | Analyses the educational methods of Prophet Muhammad and the practice of education in the first Islamic society. Evaluates the effects of theology, philosophy and mysticism on education. |
PO-4 Uses research methods and techniques applied in the field, has theoretical and practical knowledge. PO-5 Interpret, analyse and create new information by integrating the information obtained in the field with information from different disciplines. PO-6 Carry out a study that requires expertise in the field independently. PO-7 Develop new approaches to solve complex and unpredictable problems encountered in applications related to the field. PO-8 Lead in solving problems related to the field; organise personal, institutional and team work at the level of expertise. PO-9 Examine and develop social relations and the norms guiding these relations from a critical perspective and take action to change them when necessary. PO-10 Transfer the current developments and projects carried out in the field to the groups in and out of the field by supporting them with quantitative and qualitative data through appropriate communication tools. PO-11 Communicate orally and in writing using a foreign language at the B2 level of the European Language Portfolio. |

Course Contents | ||
The course will examine the historical development of Islamic educational thought through the traditions of theology, philosophy and Sufism, starting from the context of the Prophet Muhammad's era. The rise and decline of the madrasa system and the modernisation movements of the 19th century will be examined; finally, the issue of the Islamisation of knowledge will be discussed. | ||
