Information Of Programmes

FACULTY OF FINE ARTS / PAINTING

History

The Department of Painting was founded based on the Article 2880 of 2547 no law pertaining article no 7/d-2 during the Meeting of Higher Education Executive Board held on January 10th, 2010. Gives undergraduate education and degree.. The language of instruction during courses is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

The students who accomplishes all the courses (total of 240 ECTS credits) and receives at least 2.00 out of 4.00 in the Program are awarded an undergraduate diploma in Painting.


Level of Qualification

Bachelor's Degree. BA


Specific Admission Requirements

It is necessary that students pass the YGS exam (Student Selection Examination). They have to get at least the minimum score required by the department. Moreover, they are required to get the necessary score on the two-phase specal test for artistic talent held by the university. Documents required for registration: 1- Diplomas of High Schools and/or their equivalents 2- The Result of Student Placement Exam by ÖSYM.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning in Turkish higher education institutions are still in progress. Therefore, recognition of prior learning in Nevşehir University has not been fully accomplished. However, exemption exams from such lessons as Computer Sciences and English are held at the beginning of every academic year. Students who consider themselves capable of meeting the learning outcomes of such lessons are welcome to take the exemption test. Those who have passed the exemption test are exempt from the relevant lesson.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students who have accomplished all the courses- elective and compulsory ones (equal to 240 ECTS in total) and have weighted average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 are given an undergraduate diploma in Painting Department.


Profile of The Programme

Students who have completed their studies in the Department of Painting: 1- achive observational studies on human models, placement, form and concepts and skills to use the technique 2-do an analysis of organic and geometric forms on the human body 3. recognize andimplements the concept of volume which gives perception of the third dimension on a two-dimensional surface. 4- analyse The picture as a work of art, and his progressive in art history, and values of artwork as iconographic and plastic charachter. 5- are familiar with the philosophical and aesthetic theories about art 6- examine modern art by tracing society and art which has changed by occuring modern idendity of art 7- know how to use Painting techniques and developments 8-explore the ways that individual expression by oil paintings on canvas, 9- know and applies the techniques of the different types of print. 10-Benefit from applications on aesthetics, art history, criticism, and museums. 11-do visual and formatting studies on the natural and artificial objects. 12-discuss problems of art by conferences, seminars, exhibitions, art events and etc 13- collect the necessary data in order to solve the problems of the art field. 14- do scientific studies in the field of painting and art. 15- use related computer technology in the field. 16-use the Oral and written communication capabilities communicates critical and analytical. 17-follow the information and communicates using foreign language. 18-work in disciplinary and interdisciplinary co-operation.

PO-1 Makes observational studies on live models; has an opportunity to create installation, form, concepts, composition and skill using different technique.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

It is possible for the students who have graduated from our department: - to work in educational institutes as teachers of painting and visual arts provided that if they have got pedagogical training. - to set up their own workshops and offer courses in their field of study. - to produce their own works of art and enjoy a national and an international fame. - to be academicians following their graduate and Ph.D studies. - to work in private art galleries, universities, graphic design & advertising agencies, museums and community centers.


Access to Further Studies

The students who have successfully completed their undergraduate studies can follow their graduate studies further provided they have got the necessary score on ALESS (Academic Personnel and Post-graduate Education Entrance Exam) and a fair knowledge of English.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

It is necessary that every student enroll in the courses at the beginning of each term. They have to attend 70 % of the theoretical courses and 80 % of the practical courses in order to take the final exam. They are required to take at least 1 mid-term exam and a final exam for each lesson. The midterm exam (It is also possible to add the marks that students get from homework, quizzes, laboratory to the midterm exam result) contributes 40 % while the final has a share of 60 % on the pass mark. All of the exams are scored on a 100 scale. Students have to get at least 45 points on the final exam. They are considered successful in a lesson provided that they have got (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) or (CC). Students with (DC) or (DD) scores are also considered successful on condition that they have a grade point average of at least 2.00.


Graduation Requirements

Students have to pass all the lessons in the course (240 ECTS credits), get a weighed grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00 and complete their thesis in order to accomplish the program.


Mode of Study

Full-time.


Facilities

The department has 1 associate professor, 2 assistant professors, 3 instructors and 1 research assistant. Moreover, it has 5 painting workshops, 2 classrooms, 2 press rooms and two 3-D design workshops. The classrooms hold up to 45 students while the workshops can hold up to 15 students each. The infrastructure of the department provides an efficient use both for teaching and academic studies. There are two computer labs and a library at the faculty for our prospective students.
