It is in the application phase. |
Graduates who have successfully completed the program are awarded a Ph.D in the field of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. |
Ph.D |
For admission to Ph.D program: 1- Bachelor's and Master of Science Degree in acceptable fields 2- Sufficient score from the National Academic Staff & Graduate Education Exam (ALES) 3- English proficiency. |
Recognition of prior learning in Turkish higher education institutions are still in progress. Therefore, recognition of prior learning in Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University has not been fully accomplished. However, exemption exams from such lessons as Computer Sciences and English are held at the beginning of every academic year. Students who consider themselves capable of meeting the learning outcomes of such lessons are welcome to take the exemption test. Those who have passed the exemption test are exempt from the relevant lesson. |
In order to receive a Ph.D degree in Metallurgy and Material Engineering field, students have to successfully complete their courses, give a seminar about their thesis subjects, pass a doctoral qualification, and present and defend a review or original research thesis. |

Materials Engineers have widely business areas in public and private sectors as the three main material groups are metallic, ceramic and polymeric material sector and in addition to these sector groups engineers can work in area of composite materials, nanocomposite materials, electronic materials, and biomaterials. Materials Engineers who prefer metallurgical field are especially work in plants such as production of metal raw materials, processing of metal raw materials, the production of metal alloys and conversion of these metal raw materials to final product. Materials Engineers who prefer ceramic field are especially work in plants such as the production of ceramic raw materials, processing of ceramic raw materials, the production of ceramic mixtures and conversion of these ceramic materials to final product. In addition to these sectors, they can work in automotive and white goods industry, space-plane industry, biomedical sector, sector of electronic and fiber optic materials as a more subjective. Materials Engineers who prefer polymer field are especially work in plants such as production of polymer raw materials, processing of polymer raw materials, the production of polymer mixtures and conversion of these polymer raw materials to final product. Furthermore, they can work in various sectors which contain polymer materials as an insulator such as textile, space-plane industry, automotive and white goods industry, biomedical sector, sector of fuel cell and battery industry and electronics industry. In addition to these sectors materials engineers who prefer work in composite materials, nanocomposite material, and electronic material and biomaterial fields will be find the opportunity to work in the above-mentioned sectors. Nowadays, the sole aim of materials sector especially upgrade to advance levels the properties of traditional materials with fabrication of nanocomposite. |
The upper level is completed with Ph.D. |
Courses taken by a student have to be pre-approved by the student’s advisor every semester. At least 70% attendance for the theoretical classes and at least 80% attendance for the applied classes including workshop studies are obligatory to be able to attend the final exam. Students must attend at least one mid-term exam and a final exam for each course. 40% of the mid-term exam (homework, lab classes, quizzes, multiple choice tests) plus 60% of the final exam is accounted for evaluating the student’s performance in a course. |
In order to successfully complete the Ph.D in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering program, it is necessary to pass all the courses available in the program (120 ECTS credits) and successfully complete the Ph.D thesis. |
Full-time |
The academic activities of the department are carried out with two professors, one associate professor and five doctor modern classrooms with the latest technology courses are conducted. However, students have free access to the opportunities offered by the university during the day. |
