History

History Nevsehir University, Faculty of Fine Arts was founded in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers which is dated 31.03.2008 and No. 2008/13467 published in Official Gazette in 2008 with No.26848. The Department of Music and Performing Arts was founded in accordance with Articles 7/d-2 of Law No. 2880, as amended by Law No. 2547 on 20.01.2010 in the meeting of the Executive Board of the Higher Education.


Qualification Awarded

The students, who achieve the programme, are awarded a Master's Degree certificate in the department of Music.

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates must have a university degree and meet the requirements determined by the university senate for each year of registration.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

Some exemption exams are applied for some lessons such as Computer Technology or English at the beginning of both academic terms. The students who regard themselves as having the learning outcomes of these lessons can take the exams. And, the students who achieve these exams are exempted from these lessons.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To successfully complete all courses in the program (equivalent to a total of 120 ECTS), obtain a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00. To successfully complete the seminar and thesis stages. To meet the criteria determined by the university senate in terms of academic publication.


Profile of The Programme

Our program consists of academicians who are experts in their fields and it is planned to carry out the necessary studies together with the courses. The fields of study of our department are Classical Western Music, Turkish Folk Music, Turkish Classical Music. The aim is to train students as individuals who also have field skills. The aim is to ensure that students are successful in the professional exams they will face later and to train our students as talented and equipped artists at national and international levels. The stakeholders that the Performing Arts Department interacts with and is desired to interact with can be summarized as TÜBİTAK, DPT, TRT, MESAM, various institutions and organizations affiliated with the ministries, especially the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Universities, Research Institutions, Institutes, Graduates.


Key Learning Outcomes of the Programme

PO-1 Students who successfully complete the Department of Music recognize the senior concepts related to their programs
PO-2 Are familiar with the formation and harmonization of scales, accompanying chords, cadences, secondary dominants, creating chords of triphonic and quadraphonic sounds, modal change chords and tension sounds.
PO-3 Have a basic knowledge of measurement systems, musical signs, arrays and intervals and tonality etc.They are also familiar with the basic rules, techniques and terms of music, able to read musical notes and write what they hear in musical notes.
PO-4 Have acquired the necessary knowledge on the history of Turkish and Western Music.
PO-5 Can perform basic pieces of music that belong to various periods and require different techniques accompanied by musical instruments and sounds.
PO-6 Can use their voice efficiently in accord with their anatomy and physiology while speaking and singing songs, have acquired the articulation and manner of speaking habits in accordance with the phonology of the language they speak
PO-8 Plays in music communities and manages them.
PO-9 Are familiar with the history and development of Art.
PO-10 Collect the necessary data for the solutions to the problems encountered in their fields of study.
PO-11 Have a necessary knowledge of what the forms of Turkish Music are, how to compose a piece of music and composing techniques.
PO-12 Are familiar with the types of instruments used in the Traditional Turkish Art Music, practice listening familiar with the theoretical knowledge on the basic modes and methods.
PO-13 Can recognize where the forms of the Traditional Turkish Art Music originate and perfom them.
PO-14 Analyse the harmonization rules of repertory in polyphony used from time to time and pieces of music created on these rules.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Our graduates may have the opportunity to work primarily in the relevant departments of universities that need researchers, interpreters and performers in the field of music in our country, in the music ensembles of the Ministry of Culture, within T.R.T. and in Symphony Orchestras. In addition, they will have the opportunity to practice their profession in associations, municipalities, foundations and private institutions and organizations. In addition, graduates who want to specialize in their own areas of interest will be able to continue their Ph.D. programs in other universities. In addition, if they meet the relevant conditions, they will be able to apply for relevant position announcements to work as lecturers and research assistants at universities.


Access to Further Studies

Candidates who successfully complete their master's degree can study in doctoral programs provided that they receive a passing grade from the ALES exam, have sufficient English language skills, and have sufficient musical knowledge and skills.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading All the students have to register for the courses at the beginning of each term, and have to join at least % 70 of all the courses and % 80 of all the practices in order to be able to have final exams. The students have at least 1 mid-term exam and 1 final exam for each course. The mid-term exam contributes %40 and the final exam contributes %60 to total grade. All the exams are assessed over 100 scoring system. And, the students who get one of the letter Marks such as ( AA ), ( BA ), ( BB ), ( CB ), and ( CC ) are accepted to achieve the course. The letter Marks such as (DC) and (DD) mean contidionally successful. Moreover, a student is required to get at least 2.0 Grade Point Average ( GPA ) in order to be successful in the course whose work is ( DC ) or ( DD ).


Graduation Requirements

Graduation Requirements The students are required to get at least 2.0 Grade Point Average ( GPA ) on 4.00 in total, and to complete the dissertation successfully in order to be able to achieve the programme.

Facilities

Two Associate Professors, Two Dr. Lecturers, one lecturer, and one research assistant work in the Department of Performing Arts. The department has four classrooms, one library, one computer room with a capacity of 20 computers, one practice stage, 14 study rooms, and 11 lecturer rooms.
