TOURISM RESEARCH INSTITUTE / TOURISM GUIDING (PHD)

History

Turkey's first Tourism Research Institute was established within the body of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University with the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette dated 25 May 2018 and numbered 30431. Tourism Research Institute started the education of the Tourism Guidance Department doctoral program in the 2021-2022 academic year. The language of education is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

Tourism Guiding Doctorate Degree in is awarded to students who successfully completed all courses in the curriculum (a total of 240 ECTS credits) and have obtained a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale. Students must also prepare a doctorate thesis and pass the final oral examination.

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates who will apply to the Tourism Guidance Doctorate Program must get at least 65 points from the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) Verbal score type and at least 65 from the Foreign Language Exam (YDS). Candidates must have a minimum graduate grade point average of at least 75 out of 100 points. Applications of Tourism Guidance and Tourism Management master's graduates are accepted for the Tourism Guidance PhD program. The ranking is made by considering 60% of the relevant ALES score, 30% of the graduate graduation grade, and 10% of the foreign language grade of the applicants. The grade calculated in this way must be at least 55. Candidates selected from the highest score to the lowest score within the announced quota are entitled to enroll in the program.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning is carried out according to the regulations set by the Nevsehir University Institute of Social Sciences. The students, who have successfully completed courses as a registered graduate student at a different institution in their previous four semesters, can apply for recognition of prior learning. The recognition is determined by the Institute Board.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To be graduated from this program, students must successfully complete the core and elective courses (a total of 240 ECTS credits) in the curriculum. After completion of the courses, students must prepare a doctorate thesis and pass the final oral examination. The final oral examination focuses on the defense of the thesis.


Profile of The Programme

Tourism Guiding Doctorate degree program is designed to meet the needs of managers in the tourism industry and instructors/researchers in tourism education programs. The objective of the program is to develop (a) solid academic background in the fields of hospitality and tourism and (b) strong research and problem solving skills. Graduates from this program can integrate newly acquired skills and knowledge in the areas of hotel, restaurant, tourism administration, hospitality education and instruction to enhance their professional career.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Examinations are composed of one mid-term and one final exam. In order a student to take the final exam, he/she should attend at least 70% of theoretical courses and 80% of applied and laboratory studies. The course grade is calculated by adding 40% of mid-term grade to the 60% of the final exam. To be considered successful in a course, masters students must have at least CC grade.


Graduation Requirements

To be graduated from this program, students must successfully complete the core and elective courses (a total of 120 ECTS credits) in the curriculum. After completion of the courses, students must prepare a doctorate thesis and pass the final oral examination.

Facilities

The Department of Tourism Guiding at Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli University Institute of Social Sciences includes 6full-time faculty members ( 3 associate professors and 3 assistant professors) who are expert in their fields. Courses are taught at Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli University Faculty of Tourism in classrooms equipped with computers and projections. Also, there are two computer labs where students can access internet or study for their classes.
