AVANOS VOCATIONAL SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS / CERAMICS, GLASS AND TILE

History

Nevsehir University Avanos Vocational High School was established with the senatus consultum dated the 3rd of March 2009, issued 6th Nevşehir University Avanos Vocational High School Ceramics, Glass and the art of Tile Making programme of Handicraft Department started education in 2009-2010 academic year. Its educational language is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

The students who are able to pass all their lessons (equivalent to 120 ECTS in total) and have at least 2.0 grade point avarage from 4.0 have two-year degree diploma in the field of ceramics, glass and the art of tile making.

Specific Admission Requirements

The students graduating from the branches of the vocational high schools which are ceramics and glass technology, ceramics and glass administration or high schools are able to apply for open admission to “the ceramics glass and tile making programme” of associate degree. The students graduating from the branches except the mentioned fields or high schools can be placed at the programmes they want according to the OSS grades with the additional placement if there is vacancy. For this, the students must take the exam which is the higher education entrance exam (YGS) and held by OSYM and they must take adequate grade from YGS-2.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

The process of recognizing previous study in the higher education institution is still front-end. Therefore recognizing previous study in all the programmes of Nevşehir University is not started completely. However, exemption exam is held at the beginning of each academic year for the lessons such as English and Computer in the educational plans of the programmes. The students who think that they have the expected learning output can attend the exams held. The students attending and being succesful in the exam are exempt from the related lesson.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To have a two-year degree in the field of ceramics, glass and tile making, the students must pass all the the compulsory and elective subjects which are neccesssary to be taken and have at least 2.0 grade point avarage from 4.0.


Profile of The Programme

The aim of the programme is to educate qualified staff members being able to meet the artistic and technical needs of the big and small businesses, and institutions in the ceramics, glass and the art of tile making sector having the theoretical and practical knowledge, being an entrepreneur, acquiring the ability of thinking widely. Our students are made to gain experience by being encouraged to work in big and small ceramics industries in Avanos for one or two days a week at the time of education and the connection between school-industry is established successfully. Our students are led to learn the organization chart, socialize, have the ability to communicate and recognize the reforms in their field by giving responsibilities to them in the activities of national- international various ceramic art in Avanos.


Key Learning Outcomes of the Programme

PO-1 have knowledge about reform movements and the recession of Ottoman Empire and its reasons at the last decades, Turkish war of the independence, the establishment of the state of the Republic of Turkey and Ataturk’s principles and revolutions.
PO-2 Know the features of sounds, the rules and the structure of Turkish as a mother tongue, its place among the world languages ; have knowledge about grammatical rules, punctuation, the types of written and oral expression, the ways to speak effectively and fluently.
PO-3 Follow the foreign information (at least for one foreign language) related to their branch at the level of European language portfolio and communicate with the colleagues.
PO-4 Use informatics and communication technologies in their branch with the computer software at the level of European computer driving licence.
PO-5 Have adequate and necessary knowledge about basic Mathematics.
PO-6 Investigate the elements about opening a workplace, the continuation of the quality subjects and the behaviors of the consumers; have necessary knowledge about the business ethics; have adequate conscious about occupational health, and security; are able to work individually and in a group and know the necessity of life-long learning.
PO-7 Recognize the techniques which are shaping ceramics and design; practice three-dimensioned workshops; achieve new things by following the reforms in their fields and combining the traditional and contemporary things in terms of design and practice; carry out porcelainization and firing processes; use the technological devices, electrical appliances and machines related to their branch; understand the problems and their solutions.
PO-8 Use the units and programmes which are necessary for their branch; know and practice the designing programs in terms of technical two- three dimensioned graphic design.
PO-9 Use the instruments for technical drawing in accordance with the drawing technique, draw the basic geometric charts, projection and perspective drafts properly.
PO-10 Recognize the basic materials in accordance with the experiences and the acquired knowledge in the field of glass and ceramics technology and ceramics chemistry; are able to form mud, gloss and plaster; are able to do an experimental research; collect data and present them.
PO-11 Make industrial and artistic production by recognizing the styles of plaster designing and stripping and perform what they have designed.
PO-12 Implement the methods of glass forming according to the general and contemporary values technically and scientifically.
PO-13 Know the artistic and anatomic rates, different techniques and materials, visual observation and basic terms.
PO-14 Investigate the history of glass, ceramics and tile making art from the ancient period to the present in terms of territory and aesthetic with examples.; have knowledge about the art of ceramics and tile making categorizing them with their classical, industrial and contemporary titles; have knowledge about the craftsmen who shape the art of ceramics, glass and tile making; know the new techniques and materials used today.
PO-15 Analyze the ornaments used in tile making art; are able to study on figures by learning its rules; have knowledge of the materials used in tile making art and technical infrastructure; learn and practice the motifs (designs) used in tile making; know to tile making decor techniques, and implement the processes which are glazing and kiln- drying.
PO-16 Know the basic art and designing, speculative and practical principles; recognize the problems; offer a solution by commenting the objects, artistic production around them analytically; criticize; make a claim to ethic value; transfer the things related to their branch properly; recognize the target group, get in touch.
PO-17 Design form in accordance with the principles of the potter's wheel.
PO-18 The scaling ability, gaining desired extent does the three-dimensional applications.

PO-23 Graphic Design defines the basic concepts related to the field, when the design uses vector-based program.

The employment fields of the graduate from this programme is wide. The graduate from this programme can employ in ceramics,glass and tile making sectors, workplaces and factories with the title of “ceramics, glass and tile making technician”. Furthermore, They can manage their own workplaces.


Access to Further Studies

The candidates who finish the two-year degree education successfully can study in undergraduate program ıf they take an acceptable grade from the external transfer exam.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student must register for the lessons at the beginning of each semester and they must attend at least 70 percent of the classes and 80 percent of the practices to be able to attend the final exam. The students are subject to a mid-term exam and a final exam for each course. The contribution of the mid-term exam (the grades taken from homeworks, laboratory exams, quizzes can be added to the midterm exam ) to the final grade is 40 percent and the contribution of the final exam to the final grade is 60 percent. All the exams are evaluated from 100 points. There is a compulsory for the students to take at least 45 points from the final exam. The students who are able to take one of the letter grades which are AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are thought to be succesful in that course. DC and DD are the grades which are thought to be succesful conditionally. The average grade of the students who take DD or DC from one of the courses must be at least 2.0.


Graduation Requirements

To finish the programme succesfully, passing all the lessons available( equivalent to 120 ECTS), having at least 2.0 average grade from 4.0, finishing a compulsory training education lasting 30 days are neccessary.

Facilities

The educational activities are held by three lecturers and the other lecturers and faculty members in this field educate the students in ceramics,glass and tile making programme. The lessons are held in ceramics and mud workplace, plaster workplace, ceramics, tile and decoration workplace, oven workplace, chemistry laboratory, computer laboratory and the classes with projection.
