History

The Department of Psychology, which is part of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University, was established in 2020.


Qualification Awarded

Students who complete all of the courses available in the program (for a total of 240 ECTS) and achieve a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 are awarded a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Specific Admission Requirements

In our country, it is necessary to be successful in the YGS and LYS selection exams to enter universities. For a bachelor’s degree, this condition is enough to have. Students make university and program decisions related to their scores. Then they send preference forms to Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). This institution is dependent on the High Education Board (YÖK). OSYM gets these forms, classifies applications depend on score types and put the scores in order from high to low. After all these stages, OSYM places students one of their choices according to their preference lists. The selection of foreign students to enter the universities in our country is also accepted from a certain quota according to the results of the central exam called The Foreign Student Exam (YÖS). The documents required in admission; 1- Diploma for high schools and their equivalents, 2- The placement result.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

The process of recognizing previous learning in Turkish higher education institutions is still in its early stages. Therefore, the recognition of previous learning in all programs of Nevşehir Haci Bektas Veli University has not been fully initiated. However, exemption exams are held at the beginning of each academic semester for courses such as Computer and English, which are included in the education plans of the programs. Students who can provide the expected learning outcomes from these courses have the right to take the exams. Students who take the exams are exempt from the relevant course in the curriculum.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To obtain a bachelor's degree in psychology, students must complete all of the compulsory and electable courses (for a total of 240 ECTS) in the program and achieve a weighted GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.


Profile of The Programme

The main objective of the Psychology Department is to transfer the basic fields of contemporary psychology (knowledge of sub-fields such as Clinical, Developmental, Social, Experimental, Psychometrics, Industry-Organization, Health, Forensic and Traffic Psychology) and theories through the current application, measurement and research methods. As a result, it is the training of qualified psychologists who can research, think scientifically, are equipped in professional subjects and can make preventive and therapeutic interventions to protect the mental health of the society with their knowledge and contribute to science at the national and international level.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The vast majority of graduates with a bachelor degree in psychology work in public hospitals and private hospitals. Especially clinical psychologists have started to be employed in line with the advances in neuropsychology in hospitals, clinical diagnosis and treatment centres recently. They also work as educators, faculty members and/or researchers at the universities. The need for competent psychology graduates in these institutions in our country and around the world continues to increase. Psychologists may also be needed for the evaluation and regulation of training programs. In addition, they can work in nursery and daycare centres, other institutions that provide preschool education. They also carry out activities such as directing the elderly in nursing homes and other centres to the specified targets and evaluate the programs applied to adolescents and young people in foster homes and nursing homes. In addition, psychologists work in various public duties such as courthouses, social services, military institutions and police station. They contribute to psychological evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation in these institutions. In addition, many psychologists work in the industry, public relations and human resources for planning, quality management, increasing work and workplace productivity, employee safety, employee selection, rewarding and raising/laying off employees.


Access to Further Studies

Candidates who complete their undergraduate education can study in graduate programs provided that they get valid grades from the ALES (Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) and have sufficient knowledge of English.

Examination and assessment criteria for the courses are presented annually in accordance with the course plan.


Graduation Requirements

To complete the program, it is necessary to pass all the courses available in the program (equivalent to 240 ECTS) and to achieve a weighted GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.
