History

Nevsehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University, Faculty of Education, Program of German Language Teaching was founded in accordance with Articles 7/d-2 of Law No. 2880, as amended by Law No. 2547 in 2011.


Qualification Awarded

Students are awarded a bachelor's diploma in GLT.


Level of Qualification

Bachelor's degree


Specific Admission Requirements

The Program in Teaching German as a Foreign Language offers an undergraduate program. The students who are enrolled in these program take a language proficiency exam and if their language level is below the required level, they follow the preparatory language program for the first year.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

German language preperation is mandatory in this program. The exemption policy is applied based on the German Preparation School regulations.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students are required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00


Profile of The Programme

The Department of German Language Teaching offers a comprehensive training program on German and train German teachers who are equipped with contemporary knowledge and teaching skills. In line with this perspective, the program aims to train German teachers who: • are conscious, responsible, and guided by modern principles of education, • are armed with the skills used in contemporary education, and • have acquired the ability to design lessons that are compatible with technological changes.


Key Learning Outcomes of the Programme

PO-1 The student defines the concepts of assessment and scientific research and applies it in the school environment and follows the development of students using different assessment and evaluation methods and techniques.
PO-2 The student organizes daily lesson plans according to instructional plans and prepares, adapts and evaluates appropriate instructional technology and materials.
PO-3 The student analyzes the development, learning and guidance processes of the individual and the relationship of these processes with student development.
PO-4 The student explains the concepts and principles of theoretical and applied linguistics and theories of first and second language acquisition, establishes the connection of these theories with the theories and practices of foreign language teaching.
PO-5 The student explains the basic literary concepts and principles, applies these concepts and principles in the field of foreign language teaching.
PO-6 The student employs Turkish and German basic language skills and grammar rules effectively and selects the appropriate teaching plan for the target audience and implements them.
PO-7 The student defines and applies foreign language teaching approaches and methods.
PO-8 The student evaluates the functionality, currency and effectiveness of publications in his/her field and writes original articles.
PO-9 The student translates in different fields from German to Turkish or from Turkish to German.
PO-10 The student applies informatic and communication technologies in the classroom together with a level of computer software required by the field.
PO-11 The student achieves lifelong learning ability in line with his/her needs.
PO-12 The student interprets the political, economic, social and intellectual conditions that led to the emergence of the Turkish Revolution, and adopts high human values, especially national goals and ideals and love of country, in line with the principles and revolutions of Atatürk in integrity with the society he lives with.
PO-13 The student communicates in this language by using a foreign language at the European Language Portfolio B1 General Level.
PO-14 The student develops individual talents related to artistic and cultural issues, achieves general culture formation, actively participates.
PO-15 The student gets to know German culture, makes cultural comparisons and gains the ability to communicate between cultures.
PO-16 The student effectively fulfills the responsibilities taken in individual and group work and evaluates the practices of their peers.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student must register in the beginning of each semester and in order to participate in the final examination, students must have attended at least 70% of the courses and 80 % of the practices. Students are subjected at least one mid-term examination and the final examination for each course. The mid-term examination’s (assessment methods like assignments, quizzes, etc. can be calculated as mid-term grade) contribution to the final grade is 40% and final examination counts for 60% of the final grade. The students have to get grades such as (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) in order to be successful. (DC) and (DD) grades are conditional success grades. It means that if a student has these grades for some courses, he has to get at least 2.0 GPA so that he will be successful in the mentioned courses.


Graduation Requirements

A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00

Facilities

In the Department of Foreign Language Education, educational activities are conducted with 1 Professor and 5 Assistant Professors (December 2014). Lecturers from other faculties also teach in our department. Courses are performed in classrooms with projectors and having the capacity of 40 students.
