Information Of Programmes

FACULTY OF ECONOMICS & ADMINISTRATIVE SCIENCES / PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

History

Nevşehir University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, including Business Administration, Economics and International Relations Departments founded as an unit of Erciyes University depending on the decision of the Council of Ministers, dated 01.09.1997, published in the Official Gazette dated 03.09.1997. Our faculty has been connected to the Rectorate of the University of Nevşehir which was established by Law No. 5662 that came into force upon Official Gazette No. 26536, date 29.05.2007 publication. Our Faculty’s Department of Public Administration has been established pursuant to article 7/d-2 of General Board of Higher Education Law No. 2547 amended by Law No. No. 2880 on the date 07.12.2007. Our department begun accepting students for regular education in 2010-2011 academic year. Language of Education is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

Students complete the program courses (a total of 240 ECTS) with an average at least 2.0 weighted grade of 4.00 are eligible for Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration.

Specific Admission Requirements

High school graduates who want to see education and training in Turkish universities are required to take enough points from YGS (Transition to Higher Education Examination) and LYS (Undergraduate Placement Examination) exams. Placements according to the preference of students are maintained by ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center). Students who gain the right to register Nevşehir University, Department of Public Administration must register between the dates indicated by providing documents required from the home page of university. In admission of students from abroad, criteria set by OSYM and quotas allocated by the university will be taken into account.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition process of prior learning by Turkish higher education is at an early stage yet. Therefore, recognition of prior learning is not fully initialized in all programs of the University of Nevşehir. However, exemption exam is held at the beginning of each academic semester for computer programs and English courses. Students who are considering the expected learning outcomes satisfied has the right to entry to the exams. Those who pass the exam are exempt from the related course.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to obtain a bachelor's degree in Public Administration program, students must take compulsory and elective courses (for a total of 240 ECTS) and successfully complete all courses with a weighted avarage at least 2.00 of 4.00.


Profile of The Programme

The main objective of the Department of Public Administration is educating equipped individuals who can render service to primarily public sector, also private sector with the adequate level of information and transfer acquired knowledge into practice. Making researches in the discipline and training individials during education process to become qualified managers, scientists and researchers who are capable of analytical thinking, committed to act in scope of effectiveness, efficiency and ethical values, can make decisions faster, identify and solve problems, follow the current developments are among fundamental tasks of the department.


Key Learning Outcomes of the Programme

PO-1 Upon successful completion of the program students: Learn essential theoretical and empirical concepts of the discipline’s main branches, Political Science, Administration Science, Urbanization and Environmental Problems and Legal Sciences and gain a perspective which is appropriate for creating solutions in this scope;
PO-2 Identify and compare concrete models of international and national public administration, determine problems and develop solution-oriented models;
PO-3 Analyze compenents of political, administrative and institutional systems, design institutional systems, and make operational the process of decision-making and coordination mechanisms which are effective for institutionalization;
PO-4 Gain ability to adaptate oneself to technologic innovations and use the maximum level of information technologies in order to make managerial decision-making and implementation process more efficient in terms of time and resources;
PO-5 Have ability to collect data, analyze and interpret the results via utilizing accumulation of information and interdisciplinary point of view while identifying and solving existing public administration problems;
PO-6 Gain ability to apply research methods and techniques in the social disciplines;
PO-7 Have a social behavior manner which consists of project preparation skill by taking active responsibility in individual and team work, self-confidence to express oneself easily in the face of community, motivation at high level;
PO-8 Establish effective communication, oral and written; at least one foreign language in general use at the level of the European language portfolio B1.;
PO-9 Gain self-consciousness for adoption of ethical values as the fundamental values at every stage of life and especially in professional life;

Graduates’ employment opportunities in general are: Commissioner of audits, judge of administrative procedure, KPSS A (public personel selection examination) group staff of ministries, undersecretaries, general directorates and supreme council; KPSS A group positions such as governor, internal auditor, inspector, accountant, controller, supervisor, specialist, and local governments’ inspector, internal auditor positions. In addition, students can be employed as civil servants in all public institutions upon taking enough points from KPSS B group test. Working as academic and administrative staff at universities is also possible for our graduates. Graduates also can work in the private sector.


Access to Further Studies

Upon successful completion of undergraduate degree candidates can attend postgraduate programs on condition they take valid grade from ALES exam and have sufficient knowledge of English.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student must register classes at the beginning of the semester. Students to enter final exams are required to attend at least 70% of the classes and at least 80% of the applications. Students shall be subject at least 1 midterm and 1 final examination for each course. (Success measurement tools and scores obtained from them used by the instructor's may also be included.) Contribution to success grade of midterm exam is 40% and final exam is 60%. All exams are evaluated on 100 points. Students must obtain at least 45 from semester final examination. Students who manage to obtain one of those letter grades, (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC), are considered to succeeded. (DC) and (DD) are of the conditional success grades. Students received this letter grades must have at least average of 2.0 in order to be counted successful.


Graduation Requirements

In order to complete the program successfully it is required to achieve courses equivalent to 240 ECTS with a grade point average at least 2.0 on 4.00 and to accomplish a graduation thesis.

Facilities

In the department of education activities are carried out with 3 assistant professors and 5 research fellows. Courses are carried out in classrooms with a seating capacity of 50 and the projection system. Computer class with 46-person capacity is effectively used in academic studies. Our department’s students can benefit from a computer lab which is open to students throughout the day and 3 computers in the faculty for free to access internet.
