FACULTY OF LETTERS & SCIENCE / ART HISTORY

History

The Faculty of Sciences & Letters of Nevşehir University was founded on May 17th, 2007 law code 5662. Department of Art History is a part of the Faculty of Sciences & Letters offering courses in Turkish. The Department has one professor and a assistant professor. It, however, has neither undergraduate not graduate students yet.


Qualification Awarded

The Bachelor's Degree in Art History ( first cycle in Art History ) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum. e professor and a assistant professor

Specific Admission Requirements

Students who have got the required scores on both Admission Test to the Higher Education (YGS) and Undergraduate Placement Test (LYS) meeting at least the minimum score stipulated by the Department of Art History are entitled to enroll in the program. Diplomas of high schools and their equivalents as well as Placement Paper by OSYM are required for the enrollment.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning in Turkish higher education institutions is still underway. Therefore, recognition of prior learning in Nevşehir University has not been fully accomplished. However, exemption exams from such lessons as Computer and English are held at the beginning of every academic year. Students who consider themselves capable of meeting the learning outcomes of such lessons are welcome to take the exemption test. Those who have passed the exemption test are exempt from the relevant lesson.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students who have accomplished all the courses (equal to 240 ECTS) and have got at least a weighted average grade of 2.0 out of 4.00 are awarded an undergraduate diploma in the Department of Art History.


Profile of The Programme

The Department of Art History has two objectives to fulfill, the former being to create a required number of proficient undergraduate students in the field of study offering them theoretical courses and the latter being to train the graduate students of the program to such an extent that they can be proficient Art Historians both at home and abroad.

PO-1 Having theoretical and practical knowledges in Art History
PO-2 Acquiring ability on data collection, analyzing, interpreting, discussing and proposing about the issues of the History of Art.
PO-3 Having a good level of a foreign language to communicate and to follow up current searches on the History of Art.
PO-4 Acquiring objective and consistent interpreting skill via comparing art and architecture products in different geographies.
PO-5 Having ability on semtinizing and evaluating the effects of materials, manufacturing technique, designing, political, social, economical, and ideological factors on production and progress of art and arhictecture products.
PO-6 Acquiring the skill of obtaining and following up the technological progresses and scientific papers in the field of the History of Art.
PO-7 Having ability to practice his/her knowledge on the History of Art in transdisciplinary works.
PO-8 Realizing the meaning and importance of the History of Art in national or international aspects; being capable of evaluation and interpretation of art and architecture products that has survived.
PO-9 Achieving the consciousness of acquising new knowledge and skills lifelong.
PO-10 Having the knowledge of setting up a paralel between the History of World Art and History of Turkish Art.
PO-11 To be able to the sensitivity of doing something about art and architecture products, cultural heritage and its environment.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Students who have graduated from our department are supposed to be employed in: -Ministry of Culture & Tourism and General Directorate of Foundations as experts, assistant experts or researchers in museums on condition that they have got the required score on KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Test) and a language proficiency test as well as the admission test of the relevant institution. - In higher educations as academicians on condition that they have got the required score on a language proficiency test and ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam)


Access to Further Studies

Students who have successfully completed their undergraduate studies can follow their graduate studies further provided they have got the required score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) and a fair knowledge of English.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The midterm exam has 40 % while the final exam has a share of 60 % on the pass mark. All of the exams are scored on a 100 scale. Students have to get at least 45 points on the final exam. They are considered successful in a lesson provided that they have got (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) or (CC). Students with (DC) or (DD) scores are also considered successful on condition that they have got a grade point average of 2.00.


Graduation Requirements

Students have to pass all the elective and compulsory lessons in the course (240 ECTS credits), get a weighed grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00.

Facilities

The Department has one professor and a assistant professor. It, however, has neither undergraduate not graduate students yet. The prospective students however can make use of the central library on the campus. Moreover, they will do research in relevant institutions and have the opportunity to take part in the excavations in summer and inspection trips to various parts of Turkey, where historical artifacts abound.
