The Engineering and Architecture Faculty of Nevşehir University was first signed by the state ministers to be founded based on the 30th article of the law numbered 2809 on December 25, 2009. The Geophysical Engineering department under the Engineering and Architecture Faculty has started accepting undergraduate students beginning from September of year 2011. The education language is Turkish. |
Students who have completed a total of 240 program credits in the ECTS grading scale along with an accomplishment of at least 2.0 grade point average out of 4.0 are awarded a diploma in the field of Geophysical Engineering. |
Bachelor's Degree |
Anyone who wishes to enter an undergraduate program in a university in our country must take the exam designed to select students (ÖSS) as a complete prerequisite for placement. Therefore, undergraduate students are selected to be placed by a centrally administered examination system. The organization responsible for its administration is The Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM), which is affiliated to The Higher Education Council (YÖK). Students who are awarded the right to enrol will register on certain dates. Students meeting the above conditions and having a valid excuse can do their admission registration facilitated by their family or relatives. Foreign students are selected to be placed in our universities, carried out by a central Foreign Student Examination (YÖS) quota system. Registration documents; 1 – High School or equivalent diploma, 2 – The Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) result. |
Recognition of early learning in Turkish higher education organisations is still in progress. For this reason, recognition of early learning for all programs at Nevşehir University is not completely initiated. However, at the beginning of each academic semester exemption tests are carried out for Computer and English courses. Students who are considered to meet the expected learning outcomes for these courses have the right to attend the exemption test. Successful students are fully recognized as exempt from courses upon succeeding the corresponding tests. |
To obtain a graduate degree in Geophysical Engineering, students need to achieve all compulsory and elective courses (corresponding to a total of 240 ECTS) and score at least 2.0 weighted average according to a general average out of 4.0. |
Department of Geophysical Engineering aims to graduate students who have knowledge and ability to define, explain, apply, determine and teach the basic principles of Geophysical Engineering along with practical implementation within limits provided by respective laws. Department of Geophysical Engineering has principles within and outside the department and has responsibilities against the dean’s office and to the rector. The department educates its students thoroughly so that the graduates can easily find jobs in a wide variety of field. Department of Geophysical Engineering is mainly associated with seismotectonics, earthquake risk and land slide studies, industrial materials, radioactive minerals, mining, coal, stone quarry, underground water management, oil and natural gas, geothermal research, microzonation, soil foundation research for building complexes, factory, industrial complex, airport, skyscraper, dam, and nuclear plant, archaeological geophysics, soil and underground water pollution, underground natural gas storage, waste management, chemical waste disposal, corrosion studies for natural gas and oil pipelines, preparation of environmental reports, shallow and deep earth structure, earth’s physical and chemical structure, atmosphere and ocean studies, and geophysics in outer space. Upon getting a high score from KPSS exam graduates of this program can be employed in state institutions. Academic staff in our department struggle to provide the best education for the students and join research efforts funded by TUBITAK which provides a positive environment for the students to learn and research the field. Those students who display success above the average are encouraged to pursue the graduate studies by placing them in research activities and showing the advantages of getting a higher degree. Our students take classes based on a well balanced mixture of geophysical materials from geology, physics, mathematics, computer sciences and chemistry, which well prepares them for their future career objectives. |

The graduates of Geophysical Engineering can find jobs in state institutions, such as universities, Mineral Research & Exploration General Directorate (MTA), General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), Disaster Affairs Earthquake Research Institute, City Administrations, General Directorate of Highways (TCK), Government Offices (Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Environment), and municipalities. Private companies, such as geological firms engaged in soil studies, construction firms working on geotechnical problems, mine and underground water management companies. Graduates of this program can be employed in state institutions if he/she gets high score from KPSS exam. |
A student who has successfully fulfilled Geophysical Engineering education, scored high in Academic Postgraduate Educational Exam (ALES) and fluent in English may attend graduate programs. |

Courses taken by a student have to be pre-approved by the student’s advisor every semester. At least 70% attendance for the theoretical classes and at least 80% attendance for the applied classes including workshop studies are obligatory to be able to attend the final exam. Students must attend at least one mid-term exam and a final exam for each course. 40% of the mid-term exam (homework, lab classes, quizzes, multiple choice tests) plus 60% of the final exam is accounted for evaluating the student’s performance in a course. Students should get at least 45 points out of 100 for each course. A student is considered successful for a course when he/she scores AA, BA, BB, CB or CC. A student can pass a class with DC or DD as well, but on a probational base that the general point average (GPA) of the student must be at least 2.0 at the end of his/her degree completion. |
In order to complete the Geophysical Engineering undergraduate program, students are expected to finish all courses (240 ECTS), accomplish a minimum of 2.0 grade point average and successfully finish and defend a graduation project. |
Full time |
In our department, two Associate Professors, one Assistant Professor, one Lecturer, three Research Assistants, 2 Graduate Students supported from projects take part in education and training of students.
