Information Of Programmes

FACULTY OF FINE ARTS / CERAMIC AND GLASS

History

Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University, Faculty of Fine Arts was established by the 31.3.2008 date and 2008/13467 numbered judgment of the coincil of ministers by the published official journal with the date of 2008 and number of 26848. The Department of Ceramic and Glass was founded based on the Article 2880 of 2547 no law pertaining article no 7/d-2 during the Meeting of Higher Education Executive Board held on January 10th, 2010. It started graduate studies on Fall Term of 2013-2014 Academic Year. The language of instruction during courses is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

The students who have accomplished all the courses (amounting to 240 ECTS credits) and received at least 2.00 out of 4.00 in the Program are awarded an undergraduate diploma in Ceramic and Glass

Specific Admission Requirements

In order to apply to the Ceramic and Glass Department Undergraduate program; It is necessary that students have passed the YKS exam and take minumum score mentioned at the special talent exam's guide. Moreover, they are required to get the necessary score on the two-phase aptitude test held by the university. Students who have received the score determined from the two-stage special talent exam and YKS exam, are entitled to register.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning in Turkish higher education institutions are still in progress. Therefore, recognition of prior learning in Nevşehir University has not been fully accomplished. However, exemption exams from such lessons as Computer Sciences and English are held at the beginning of every academic year. Students who consider themselves capable of meeting the learning outcomes of such lessons are welcome to take the exemption test. Those who have passed the exemption test are exempt from the relevant lesson.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students who have accomplished all the courses-elective and compulsory ones (equal to 240 ECTS in total) and have weighted average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 are given a graduate diploma in ceramic.


Profile of The Programme

The department emphasizes the significance of research and creativity as well as the use of modern ceramic technology, using the versatility of ceramic metarial to its fullest extent by a well-qualified staff. The department offers conceptual, theorical, practical courses for the students to increase their grade of knowledge, to perceive the importance of art and to learn every stage of design and production process of ceramics. The Department regularly organizes seminars and conferences to continue the relations with the industry, and arranges visit tours to museums, art galleries, artist studios and to ceramic centers for the students to enhance their visual perception and cultural knowledge. Students have compulsory training program (30 days) in the ceramic industry or artistic ceramic studios, which provides them an opportunity to deal with ceramics manufacturing and improve their skills. Students' participation in the ceramic competitions, different projects and exhibitions in Turkey and abroad are encouraged and supported by the faculty to increase their knowledge and develop the ability to think. Furthermore, the Department invites the alumni who have taken place in the industry and ceramic art field after the graduation, for giving seminars to share their experiences with the students. Graduates of the department have the chance to become researchers of this field, to work in the ceramic factories, ceramic studios and manufacturies as designers and make academic career at universities.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

It is necessary that every student enroll in the courses at the beginning of each term. They have to attend 70 % of the theoretical courses and 80 % of the practical courses in order to take the final exam. They are required to take at least 1 mid-term exam and a final exam for each lesson. The midterm exam (It is also possible to add the marks that students get from homework, quizzes, laboratory to the midterm exam result) contributes 40 % while the final has a share of 60 % on the pass mark. All of the exams are scored on a 100 scale. Students have to get at least 45 points on the final exam. They are considered successful in a lesson provided that they have got (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) or (CC). Students with (DC) or (DD) scores are also considered successful on condition that they have a grade point average of at least 2.00.


Graduation Requirements

Students have to pass all the lessons in the course (240 ECTS credits), get a weighed grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00 and complete their thesis in order to accomplish the program.

Facilities

In our department, there are 1 Associate Professor, 2 Assistant Professor, 1 Lecturer and 1 Research Assistant to carry out educational activities. There are 2 ceramic studios, 1 theoretical classroom, and 1 design and drawing studio in our department. The class capacity is up to 30 people and the studios are prepared in such a way that a total of 15 students can study. The physical infrastructure is designed to be used effectively in both education and academic studies. There is a computer lab that is used jointly with other departments in order for the students of our department to benefit.
