FACULTY OF EDUCATION / GUIDANCE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING

History

The Programme of Guidance and Counseling of Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli University is founded under Educational Science Department within the law 2557, at year 2011. Programe started undergraduate education in 2018.


Qualification Awarded

The Diploma of GUIDANCE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNCELLING is given to the students which succeed all the courses included in the program (in total 240 ECTS) and achieve at least 2.0 grade out of 4.00 grade.

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree)


Specific Admission Requirements

In Turkey it is necessary that students to pass the YKS. The only way to enter a program in University is through these tests’ scores. The students make choices in order of preference to be admitted to the programs they want to attend and send their preference form to ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center). Then the students have to provide the necessary documents and register on the mentioned dates. For the foreign students, the criteria of ÖSYM and of the quota that the university determined are taken into consideration.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

The previous learning of the acknowledged of Turkish High Education Institutes is at the beginning process. For this reason, at all the programmes the acknowledged of the previous learning at Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli University has not started yet. But, a qualification examination is held at the beginning of the academic term for the courses such as Computer and English Language which are included at the education plan. In accordance with the grades of these examinations students have the rights to pass on other courses of the department.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to have the license degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling Programme, students have to succeed (in total 240 ECTS) in all the courses both compulsory and selective courses and from the grade point average they have to achieve at least 2.00 grade out of 4.00 grade.


Profile of The Programme

Courses are carried on theoretical and practical. Within the program graduates are developed which are qualified to deal with problems such as problematic interpersonal relationships, emotional and psychological problems, hardships at schools. Those graduates have all the responsibilities and authorization in performing guidance and psychological counseling with people. Guidance and Psychological Counseling Department carries on in and outside activities and events via the deanship and rectorate. Apart from its goal to give the absolute education, the programme also aims to enhance the students’ different point of views, enlarge their vision and support them socially and cultural.


Key Learning Outcomes of the Programme

PO-1 Acknowledges Turkish National Educational system and the services of psychological counseling and guidance within this current system.
PO-2 Explains the knowledge about the theories, approaches and basic concepts of psychological counseling and guidance.
PO-3 Explains the knowledge about the services, restraints and the associations with the other disciplines of the psychological counseling and guidance.
PO-4 Explains the importance of working by taking into consideration of the ethic rules and legal arrangements in terms of human rights and vocational ethics.
PO-5 Uses all the knowledge and skills which are necessary for establishing, lasting and ending the professional psychological counseling relationship with the individuals.
PO-6 Supplies group or individual psychological counseling services, in the fields of vocational, individual and social, to the different age ranges and target audience, according to the needs.
PO-7 Arranges and applies orientation programs considering the needs of the individuals.
PO-8 Develops a scale in order to apply in the field of psychological counseling and guidance according to the needs.
PO-9 Applies, evaluates and interprets the results of test and non-test techniques that are to be used within the framework of the needs.
PO-10 Carries out crisis intervention and preventive counseling services.
PO-11 Arranges counseling programs, develop and customize them according to the needs of the institution.
PO-12 Constructs an objective communication without prejudice with the individual during the psychological counseling and guidance process.
PO-13 Evaluates his/her vocational qualifications, realizes the restraints, plans and applies how to develop him/herself for the vocational development.
PO-14 Conducts the psychological counseling and guidance services in the framework of trust, transparency and loyalty, keeps the required records, prepares the annual reports and secures the privacy of the records of the counseling processes.
PO-15 Enables the psychological counseling and guidance services to the individuals who have special needs to make them realize their existing potentials that need to be developed.
PO-16 Provides the teachers and families consultancy for the conduction of the guidance services.
PO-17 Collaborates with the other colleagues, parents and the institutions in order to increase the effectiveness of the psychological counseling and guidance services.
PO-18 Follows the current information, sources, up-to-dates, conferences, seminars, workshops and activities. Plans and rules similar works accordingly.
PO-19 Investigates the events and facts by following scientific methods, interprets and evaluates the data by making statistical analyses.
PO-20 Acts with national consciousness in line with Ataturk’s principles and reforms; adopts human ideals, national goals and aspirations.
PO-21 Monitors the developments in the field and communicates with peers by using a foreign language at least at a level of European Language Portfolio B1 General Level.
PO-22 Makes connections between psychological counseling with other social science branches (sociology, anthropology, philosophy... etc).
PO-23 Uses communication technologies and advanced computer software necessary in the field.
PO-24 Knows the aim, structure, and process of Turkish education system, the approaches of classroom management and the concepts related with education.
PO-25 Prepares projects and writes articles related with the field by using scientific research methods appropriately.
PO-26 Uses Turkish language appropriately and effectively and have skills to communicate with the students effectively.
PO-27 Uses the most appropriate teaching strategies, methods and techniques considering students’ developmental characteristics, individual differences, characteristics and achievements of the subject area.
PO-28 Provides services to individuals which facilitate self-knowledge, self-understanding and making appropriate decisions in career development process on the basis of career development theories, decision making models, and labor market conditions.
PO-29 Gains awareness about normal and abnormal behaviors and the dynamics of the behaviors of indivuals.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Our graduates’ working areas are in general; Universities, units of mental health, clinics, guidance and research centres, psychological counseling centres, hospitals, schools of Ministry of Education, human sources departments of private sector and classrooms. The graduates of the programme are appointed to public institutions with the occasion of acceeding the adequate grade from the examination KPSS.


Access to Further Studies

The students which are completed the license programme of Guidance and Psychological Counseling successfully can register the master degree provided that they pass the examination ALES and qualified enough in English Language.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student has to register the courses and participate at least 70% of the theoretical courses, %80 of the practical courses in order to have the right to participate the final examinations. Students are up for at least 1 midterm examination and final examination for each course. Mid-term examination (the grades gained from some measurement tools such as homework, performance tasks, quizzes may be assessed) 40%, final examination 60% additive for the final grade. All the examinations are evaluated via 100 point. A student who gets (AA), (BB), (CB) AND (CC) is assumed to be successful. (DC) AND (DD) grades are conditional succeeded grades. In order to be assumed successful from a course which the grades are DC or DD, that student’s final grade has to be at least 2.0.


Graduation Requirements

In order to complete the programme successfully all the courses (in return for 240 ECTS) at the programme have to be achieved at least 2.0 grades out of 4.00 grades.

Facilities

The education activities at our department are conducted with 1 associate professor, 2 assistant professor, 2 research assistant . At our department the classrooms are 60 people capacity and have projector. Students the department benefit the computers and library.
