Information Of Programmes

FACULTY OF TOURISM / TOURISM AND HOTEL MANAGEMENT

History

Tourism and Hotel Management Program (formal + evening education) was within Faculty of Commerce and Tourism Education transferred to the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences after being reviewed at the General Meeting of Turkish Council of Higher Education in accordance with the Articles 7/d-2 and 7/h of the Law No. 2880. Medium of instruction is Turkish.


Qualification Awarded

Students who have accomplished all the courses (equal to 240 ECTS) and have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 are given a Bachelor degree in Tourism Business and Hotel Management.

Specific Admission Requirements

In Turkey it is necessary that students to pass the YGS (Transition to Higher Education Examination) and LYS (Undergraduate Placement Examination). The only way to enter a program in University is through these tests’ scores. The students make choices in order of preference to be admitted to the programs they want to attend and send their preference form to ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center). ÖSYM takes all the applications, lists the scores the students have received from highest to lowest and announces the current programs according to the scores placing the students in the programs they have preferred. The foreign students get placed in a University, allocated a certain number of quota students in our country, as per the scores they have received on the central exam named YÖS (University Entrance Examination for International Students). Documents required for the enrollment process are: •Diplomas of High Schools and their equivalents •The Document of Student Placement Exam results by ÖSYM


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

In accordance with the Article 28. of Academic Rules and Regulations of Nevşehir University, the graduates of Vocational School who are successful in DGS (Degree Completion Exam) organized by ÖSYM are accepted to undergraduate program and adjusted. In addition an exemption exam for English course is held at the beginning of each academic semester. The students, who get the expected learning outcomes, have the chance of attending exams. The students who pass the exam are exempted form that course.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and Hotel Management Program, students must accomplish all compulsory and elective courses, a total of 240 ECTS, and have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.


Profile of The Programme

The expert academics of the Program bring the required practice studies off with courses. The main objective of the Tourism and Hotel Management Program is to train entrepreneurs and manager candidates who will meet the needs of business world especially in tourism sector on strategically and managerial decision making.


Key Learning Outcomes of the Programme

PO-1 To have detailed knowledge about a specific profession related to the field of Tourism and to have comprehensive and systematic knowledge about concepts, theories, principles and facts in close disciplines. To use and interpret this knowledge, theories, models generally in business environment
PO-2 To make health, safety and risk assessment regularly on the field of Tourism and gather information for this purpose. To present this information, discussion and analysis to experts and to people off the field.
PO-3 To have knowledge about Service Delivery Process and procedures in the field of Tourism. To analyze, plan, practice and control these processes. To restructure and improve Service Delivery Process when necessary. To manage or to convert service processes and work which are complex, unpredictable and require new strategic approaches.
PO-4 To have knowledge about internal and external environmental factors of organizations, relationships, interactions, management, policies and strategies of parts of the organization in the field. To use service delivery policies and strategies related to the field. To perform, review, improve and evaluate the service processes on the satisfaction basis of the customer, to find solutions for problems that affect the service process, to develop and use consumer satisfaction measurement tool.
PO-5 To have knowledge about legal regulations, professional standards and practices in the field. To interpret legal regulations related to the field and to approach existing assumptions from an interrogative viewpoint. To perform the task of the field within the framework of Laws and professional standards.
PO-6 To have a basic level of knowledge about important issues, alternative solutions and field-specific research methods in the field and relevant fields. To analyze knowledge related to the field concerning topics and issues, to evaluate different options in solving problems with a critical approach, to plan and realize projects and research using appropriate research methods. To present the results in a clear and understandable way, to be unique and autonomous in solving problems in complex and unpredictable situations and to decide himself/herself.
PO-7 To follow changes in internal and external environment of organization in the field, to make rational analysis, interpret, contribute and adapt changes.
PO-8 To recognize and use physical environment equipment, materials and technologies related to the field and to protect by maintaining.
PO-9 To manage himself/herself and time and make self-criticism. To perform functions of planning, organization, coordination, direction and control, to manage technical and professional activities or projects in complex and unpredictable situations.
PO-10 To work with others or independently effectively. To develop professional knowledge and skills of people working with him/her and evaluate their performance. To manage professional development of individuals or groups working under him/her.
PO-11 To communicate effectively interpersonal and intercultural and do group work. To work as a member of the team, take responsibility and manage the team.
PO-12 To follow current developments and applications at national and international level related to his/her profession on the field and use in practice in order. To get more responsibility, update the knowledge, skills and competencies with awareness of lifelong learning as a self-learning through personal and professional knowledge, skills and competencies by increasing and continuously improves himself/herself.
PO-13 To communicate effectively in Turkish both verbal and written, to know at least one foreign language
PO-14 To use information and communication technologies sufficiently to meet the field needs.
PO-15 To adhere ethical values related to the field and to have social responsibility. To consider human health, social and natural environment while performing tasks related to the field.
PO-16 To have sufficient awareness about privacy and confidentiality of private life of the people service provided and take necessary measures in this respect. To protect fundamental rights and freedoms, to be sensitive to differences between people and cultures, to be tolerant and respectful. To take care of his/her personal care, hygiene, clothing and appearance that is required by the field.

NQF-HETR Program Outcomes Matrices

The main objective of the Tourism and Hotel Management Program is to train entrepreneurs and manager candidates who will meet the needs of business world especially in tourism sector on strategically and managerial decision making. For this purpose students are equipped with knowledge and skills related to; two foreign languages (one must be English), information technology, tourism sector and tourism business, modern and managerial business.


Access to Further Studies

Upon successful completion of undergraduate degree, candidates may study graduate programs on condition that they get a sufficient grade in ALES (Examination for Postgraduate Study and Academic Staff) test and have sufficient level of English language skills.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student must register in the beginning of each semester and in order to participate in the final examination, students must have attended at least 70% of the courses. The students are subjected at least one mid-term examination and the final examination for each course. The mid-term examination’s (assessment methods like assignments, laboratory examinations, quizzes, etc. can be calculated as mid-term grade) contribution to the final grade is 40% and final examination counts for 60% of the final grade. In order to be successful in a course, the final grade must be at least DD. DC and DD grades are conditional success grades. That means if a student have these grades for some courses, he has to have at least a 2.0 GPA so that he will be successful in the mentioned courses.


Graduation Requirements

In order to complete the program successfully it is required to pass all courses in the program (240 ECTS), to have a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and to complete 140 work-day internship.

Facilities

In our faculty, education facilities are done by 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 7 assistant professors, 1 lecturer, 10 instructors and 2 research assistants. The courses in our department are done in classrooms with 45 seating capacity and have epidiascopes .Also a practice hotel room and a practice kitchen which are in the standards of a 4 star hotel that students can practice such lessons as Food and Beverage, Front Office and Housekeeping. The internet lab. is open daylong and free of charge.
