Information Of Programmes

FACULTY OF EDUCATION / MUSIC TEACHING

History

Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University, Faculty of Education, Fine Arts Education Department, Music Education Department, has started to accept its first students in the 2021-2022 academic year. Department of Music Education is located on the ground floor of Block E, Faculty of Education, located in Damat İbrahim Pasha Campus. 2 Associate Professors and 1 Doctoral Lecturer are working in the department. In the first year of its establishment, the faculty members and students of the department held various national and international scientific and artistic activities.


Qualification Awarded

Music Education Department is subject to 240 ECTS credits first stage degree system in the field of Music Education in higher education. Candidates who successfully graduate by fulfilling the program qualifications have a Bachelor's degree and gain the right to become a music teacher.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students are admitted to the Music Education Department with a special talent exam. In order to enter the Special Talent Exam, the candidates must have taken the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) organized by ÖSYM and entered the order specified in the exam guide. Candidates who have this feature, graduated from high school and its equivalent, are taken to the Special Talent Exam. The exam is given in Musical Hearing, Voice and Instrument branches. The quota is 40 students. Those on the main list register. Substitutes are called to replace those who do not register.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To obtain bachelor´s degree in Music Education program the students must successfully complete the required and elective courses (total 240 ECTS) and maintain the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0/4.0


Profile of The Programme

Music Education Education is given in the Music Education Department. The program has been determined by YÖK. Graduates are equipped with Music Education field knowledge, knowledgeable about student development and learning, competent in Music Teaching Methods and Techniques, and equipped with the skills to plan and implement educational activities; It is aimed to be an outstanding music teacher candidate who can make and create music, contribute to the development of music culture at national and universal level, and can think analytically and critically. In this context, in addition to the Music Teaching Undergraduate Program, concerts, scientific meetings and applied studies are organized. It is ensured that teacher candidates participate in these activities individually, in small groups and in the community. This development is strengthened and reinforced by establishing domestic and international connections with other universities.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Those who complete the Music Teaching program become music teachers. They work as teachers in Public-Private Primary and Secondary Schools. There are many Music Teachers working in pre-school education institutions on a contractual basis. There are also opportunities such as giving private lessons or dealing with trade.


Access to Further Studies

Graduates who successfully complete their undergraduate education can be candidates for graduate programs. For this, candidates must obtain valid grades from the ALES exam for both master's and doctoral programs and have sufficient foreign language knowledge for the doctoral program. Candidates who fulfill these conditions can study in graduate programs.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students register for the courses in the program at the beginning of each semester. Students can register for as many courses as they want without exceeding the periodic course load. In addition, there is the right to be enrolled in the upper semester courses according to the level of success. The training is planned for the Fall, Spring and, where necessary, the Summer Semester. In order for the student to take the final exams, 70% of the theoretical courses; It is necessary to attend 80% of the applied courses. Students take at least one midterm and final exam for each course. The success grade is calculated by taking the midterm and final exams into account. Semester studies (midterm exam, homework, quizzes, etc.) are evaluated as 40% and the final exam is evaluated as 60%, and success is determined. In order to be successful, it is obligatory to get at least 50 points from the final exam and to have an average success grade of 45 for that course. Students who receive AA, BA, BB, CB, CC grades from a course as letter grades are considered successful. Students who get DC and DD letter grades are considered conditionally successful. If the general weighted grade point average (GPA) is 2.00, the condition is removed and the students are considered successful in that course. In order to graduate, a grade point average of 2.00 is required.


Graduation Requirements

In order to successfully complete the Music Teaching Program, it is necessary to pass all the courses in the program (equivalent to 240 ECTS), to achieve a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and to successfully complete the Teaching Practice course.
