Information Of Programmes

FACULTY OF EDUCATION / SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHING

History

The main purpose of establishing discipline is to train social studies teacher in the second stage of primary schools (5,6,7 and 8 th grade). SSTMBS degree program consists of subject matter knowledge, general culture and lessons related to pedagogical training courses. Education and training last for 4 years and are taken theoretically and practically. The graduates of social studies teaching give lessons, other than social studies lessons at this level, which are within the scope of social studies teaching such as Citizenship and Democracy Education and History of the Turkish Republic and the Principles of Ataturk. It is the department to give education to train teachers who will give the social studies lesson (History, Geography, Citizenship Information) in the second stage of primary schools.


Qualification Awarded

The graduates of the department are entitled to work as social sciences educators at state or private primary education institutions (second level) and at private study centres such as private teaching institution or center for studies. In addition, they can be assigned to academic staff at universities by doing post-graduate studies in their respective fields or side areas Furthermore, other than the social sciences education, they are also entitled to teach Citizenship and Democracy Education and History of the Turkish Republic and the Principles of Ataturk.

Specific Admission Requirements

Having a high school diploma and be eligible to register to our department as a result of examinations made by ÖSYM.


Specific Arrangement For Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning in Turkish higher education institutions are still in progress. Therefore, recognition of prior learning in Nevşehir University has not been fully accomplished. However, exemption exams from such lessons as Computer Sciences and English are held at the beginning of every academic year. Students who consider themselves capable of meeting the learning outcomes of such lessons are welcome to take the exemption test. Those who have passed the exemption test are exempt from the relevant lesson.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Successfully complete all courses available in the program (a total of 240 ECTS) and to have at least 2.00 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average.


Profile of The Programme

The objectives of the Teacher Training in Social Studies Programme is to train students as social studies teachers who have humanitarian and moral values, scientific and technological literacy, the ability of thinking, investigating, examining and using modern education techniques.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students are subjected to midterm and final exam for each course.The contribution of the midterm exam is 40% and final exam is 60%. All examinations are evaluated out of 100 points. It is necessary to obtain at least 45 points on the final exam. On one course students who gets one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) considered as successful. Students who fail will take lessons again.


Graduation Requirements

Successfully complete all courses available in the program (a total of 240 ECTS) and to have at least 2.00 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average.
